Things to Know Before You Order
When do I use CoolJaw®?
Both chronic pain, (like TMJ, teeth grinding, or clicking of the jaw), and pain immediately following a surgical procedure (like wisdom teeth removal or implant surgery) can benefit from Cool Jaw’s Ice Wrap for jaw treatment. Cold therapy offers immediate relief.
A cold gel pack may still be used after the eighteen hour initial post-operative period if that makes you feel better. You may also use heat following the application of cold, if that works for you. Remember, the use of Cold Therapy in the immediate post-operative period is key to reducing the amount of swelling you may experience.
In most cases, you may minimize the amount of swelling by applying Cold Therapy to the areas of surgery on your face for the first 24 to 72 hours and you should also keep your head elevated. If you had surgery on both sides, cryotherapy is needed on both sides. If your swelling is secondary to an infection, do not use an ice pack.
It is strongly recommended that you purchase your recovery products at leastn two weeks prior to surgery. This will avoid paying extra for rush shipping charges, nullified returns, or delays in delivery, especially during the holiday season.

What is the difference between a Cold Gel Pack and a Hot/Cold Gel Pack?
Both Hot and Cold therapy packs can be very effective in helping a patient recover from surgery procedures and injuries. Our traditional ice pack, (Reusable Cold Therapy Gel Pack) freezes solid and remains cold for over an hour. Meanwhile, our blue Reusable Hot / Cold Therapy Gel Pack and T-425 Hot Cold Gel Beads remain pliable when frozen and can also be heated. Unlike conventional ice packs or a soggy bag of frozen peas, Cool Jaw gel hot/cold packs will not leak, and are light weight, ensuring proper pressure.
Which is better hot or cold?
Our thermal Hot / Cold Gel Pack can be used as heat therapy to reduce the appearance of bruising, or to address minor aches and pains, while soothing the area of discomfort.
You should consult with your doctor about when to begin using hot packs, but usually heat can be used around 3 to 4 days after surgery.

The Chin Cup is a dart in the wrap’s soft satin spandex fabric, right below the chin. With the chin cup, the wrap hugs the contour of the neck and chin and ensures stabilization and proper fit.
Can I use a Hands Free Therapy Wrap without the gel packs?

Why is my temporomandibular joint (TMJ) sore?
Most TMJ problems are caused by improper tooth alignment. Sometimes, TMJ problems may become worse following facial reconstructive procedures. If you had a TMJ problem prior to the surgical procedure, it will take time for the problem to stabilize following your facial reconstructive procedure. The philosophy with respect to the TMJ is less is more – surgery as a last resort. The use of medications, splints, and physical therapy may be helpful. In some instances, additional surgery on the TMJ may be necessary. However, it may take two years more following facial reconstructive surgery for the TM joint to adapt to the new jaw position.
